Joel is KASS’s resident expert in mechanical and civil engineering, specialising in patent drafting, prosecution, audits, and IP strategy across local and international jurisdictions.


He has deep knowledge of ASEAN patent laws and is well-versed in foreign filing procedures via the PCT and Paris Convention routes. Joel also advises clients on the effective use of international programmes such as GPPH, PPH, and ASPEC.


Beyond his client-facing work, Joel plays a key role in improving internal systems and processes within the patent division. He mentors junior team members, reviews drafts and office action responses, and helps strengthen the team's technical capabilities.


Before joining KASS, Joel worked in an engineering firm focused on foundation, geotechnical, and substructure works, where he also implemented Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) projects. His expertise is especially valuable to clients in construction, mechanical systems, petrochemicals, and related fields.
